Approximately 200,000 accounts (199,135 accounts) participated in this summer's Happy Hour. This is about 1.9 times the number of accounts (106,749) that participated in the entire previous summer campaign. Furthermore, the total discount amount at the interim stage has already reached approximately 36.5 million yen (provisional), exceeding the approximately 36 million yen from the entire previous summer campaign. The participation rate among eligible customers has also increased by 8.8 percentage points, from 24.5% last summer to 33.3% this summer.
Happy Hour is an initiative that offers a daily discount of 8 yen/kWh during the daytime hours of 11 AM to 1 PM, when electricity supply from solar power is abundant. It provides a more comfortable and new option that supports customers in "using electricity wisely" by leveraging periods when electricity is more affordable, rather than struggling with difficult "energy saving" out of concern for electricity bills.
Octopus Happy Hour Participation Rate Steadily Rising
The participation rate in Octopus Energy's Happy Hour has grown with each of its three previous implementations: from 24.5% in Summer 2025 to 27.4% in Winter 2025-2026, and 33.3% in Summer 2026.

One in Three Customers Participate; A Beloved Program Now
This summer, approximately one in three eligible customers participated. Moreover, of the households that participated in Summer 2025's Happy Hour and continue to be Octopus Energy customers, 70.9% participated again this summer. With over 70% of previous summer participants rejoining, it indicates that Happy Hour is not just a one-off campaign but is being utilized continuously as an opportunity to use electricity at a more affordable rate.
Total Rebate of Approximately 36.5 Million Yen Mid-Campaign, with 4.56 Million kWh Discounted
The amount of electricity discounted through Happy Hour by the interim point was 4,559,873 kWh. This is equivalent to the monthly electricity usage of approximately 15,000 general households[2]. The total discount amount exceeded approximately 36.5 million yen in the first half of the campaign, through August 15th.
The average discount per household for participants receiving the rebate is currently progressing at 185 yen, with an expected expansion to an average of approximately 390 yen by the end of the campaign[3]. This is equivalent to about 25 hours of electricity usage for a typical household air conditioner[4].
[2] Assumes monthly electricity usage of 300 kWh.
[3] The projected amount at the end of the campaign is an estimate based on the number of remaining days (32 days from August 16 to September 16) and usage data from the same period last year (August 16 to September 16, 2025). This may vary depending on weather conditions, etc.

Octopus's Diverse Options Support Household Budget Relief
Octopus Energy offers a variety of pricing plans and discount programs to help reduce customers' household expenses amidst fluctuating energy prices and high living costs. In addition to "Simple Octopus," which offers a fixed unit price for 12 months with no basic charges or fuel cost adjustments, they also provide unique referral discounts through their "Refer a Friend" program, where both the referrer and the referred receive a discount. These services can be selected according to individual lifestyles and needs.
Beyond "Energy Saving = Enduring" – The Choice to Select When to Use Electricity
Amidst the ongoing severe heat, even refraining from essential cooling to reduce electricity bills can pose health risks such as heatstroke. The key is not to unnecessarily endure essential electricity usage, but to also consider "when" electricity is used. Happy Hour, by offering an 8 yen/kWh discount during the 11 AM to 1 PM window when solar power generation is abundant, provides an opportunity to shift the usage of appliances with flexible operating times, such as washer-dryers and dishwashers, to this period. By using essential cooling appropriately and shifting flexible electricity demand to more affordable times, the initiative aims to balance household financial benefits with the effective utilization of renewable energy.
