Towards Environmental Conservation and Safe Operations

As part of its efforts to reduce environmental impact, Air France is modernizing its fleet. The airline has adopted the Airbus A220, which achieves a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and a 34% reduction in noise pollution compared to previous models.
The introduction of this model will play a crucial role in achieving Air France's sustainable development goals, including a 50% reduction in absolute CO2 emissions by 2024 compared to 2019 levels on domestic routes from Paris-Orly Airport and regional destinations, and a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger-kilometer by 2030 compared to 2005 levels.
The first A220, fresh from the painting process at the Canadian factory, has departed, and Air France is preparing company-wide for its arrival.
Eight pilots selected for the initial team participated in an eight-week training course last September and are now instructing the airline's 28 pilot instructors in transition training. Ultimately, nearly 700 pilots will undergo practical training on the first aircraft to obtain their A330-200 type rating.
Cabin crew training is proceeding in a similar manner. The initial team of 14, who completed their training in Zurich between September and December last year, have been instructing cabin crew in type-specific training within the company since September 2021. A door mock-up of the A220, installed at the AFCA (Air France Crew Academy) in Paray-Vieille-Poste, a suburb of Orly, is expected to be used for the training of 500 individuals.
The Air France Airbus A220 will feature a 3-2 seating configuration, totaling 148 seats. Each seat is equipped with Type A and Type C USB ports, and Wi-Fi is available for personal devices. This news fuels the desire for more freedom in air travel.
