Enjoy Meals and Activities Featuring Local Ingredients While Avoiding the "Three Cs"
The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko is a luxury hotel with a design concept of "a residence harmonizing with the nature of Oku-Nikko." Nikko is a popular destination known for its UNESCO World Heritage site, "Shrines and Temples of Nikko," as well as its abundant nature, traditional culture, and long history. The hotel is situated within Nikko National Park, offering views of the scenic Lake Chuzenji and Mount Nantai. Kegon Falls, one of Japan's three most celebrated waterfalls, known for its changing beauty with the seasons, is also within walking distance.
The hotel features 94 spacious guest rooms, restaurants, bars, a fitness studio, a spa, and a large public bath fed by the hot springs of Nikko Yumoto Onsen, which has been cherished by the region for centuries. This is the first time The Ritz-Carlton brand has incorporated a hot spring bath, offering an open-air bath where guests can relax while enjoying the gentle breeze and the scent of the trees.
Thorough measures are in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, prioritizing the safety of guests and staff. Various arrangements have been made to allow guests to enjoy meals and activities while avoiding the "three Cs," such as in-room check-in and ample space between tables in restaurants. Breakfast is served individually to each guest rather than as a buffet, creating an environment with minimal crowding and offering a selection of fresh, nutritious, and healthy dishes. The hotel's custom wooden box, resembling a jewelry box, contains a variety of meticulously prepared dishes featuring Tochigi Prefecture ingredients, including seasonal vegetable salads, fruits, Kuroge Wagyu roast beef, and dishes made with carefully selected eggs.
Takeaway menus are also available, allowing guests to savor the signature dishes of The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko, at home or outdoors. Options include mini toast breads with a unique blend of natural honey, including Tochigi Prefecture honey, wrap rolls made with Nikko Goyōran eggs, and quinoa salads. These can be enjoyed during private meals while taking in the views of Lake Chuzenji and Mount Nantai from your room, or during hikes at various scenic spots around the hotel.
Along the shores of Lake Chuzenji, an outdoor terrace is available not only for hotel guests but also for general visitors and local residents. It serves as a space to enjoy takeaway meals and a convenient resting spot for those exploring the area.
Furthermore, numerous activities are offered for guests to experience the majestic nature of Oku-Nikko without concerns about crowds. The "Oku-Nikko Hiking" plan allows guests to explore the natural beauty of Oku-Nikko while visiting the "Source Spring Hut" where Nikko Yumoto Onsen originates, and "Lake Yunoko," a mystical lake where the hot spring water flows, tracing the source of the hotel's hot springs.
The "Oku-Nikko Cycling" plan offers a mountain bike tour through the "Wetlands of Oku-Nikko," a precious ecosystem registered under the Ramsar Convention. Feel the expansive wind and experience the beautiful nature that transforms with each season.
The "Chuzenji Lake Packraft" plan involves packing an inflatable boat, similar to a canoe, into a backpack. Guests can enjoy a gentle rafting experience on the lake, gazing at Mount Nantai, after paddling through a serene forest path dappled with sunlight and inflating the boat on the lakeshore.
The "Lake Chuzenji Water Walk" offers a tranquil journey on the water, surrounded by 360-degree mountain views. Admire the reflection of Mount Nantai on the lake's surface and the sunset painting the water in hues of crimson. A 5-meter-long mega board is also available, suitable for families, couples, and friends.
