TRAVEL | Nicolai Bergmann Hakone Gardens

A unique place where people and nature connect through the worldview of Nicolai Bergmann.

Nicolai Bergmann Hakone Gardens, designed by Danish-born floral artist Nicolai Bergmann, will open in Hakone-Gora on April 15, 2022.

A "mobile garden" that changes with each visit, dotted with Nicolai's floral art and objects.

For over 20 years, Nicolai Bergmann has been based in Japan, working with a unique design that fuses Japanese and Western styles, while making the most of inspiration drawn from Japan's unique traditions, culture, and climate.
Nicolai had long been searching for a place that would allow him to embody and permanently preserve the inspiration he gains in Japan. He discovered the land in Hakone-Gora and intuitively felt it was the perfect place to connect with nature, where the untouched landscape remains as it is.
It was with this background that Nicolai Bergmann Hakone Gardens was born, a unique space where people and nature connect through his worldview, with his floral designs integrated into the natural surroundings.
Nicolai proposes a "mobile garden" in the midst of nature, which transforms with every visit.
Experience the beauty of the garden, colored by the four seasons as Nicolai's sensibility resonates with Hakone's nature: the pink hues of spring, the beautiful gradients of hydrangeas in early summer, the ethereal silver of susuki in autumn, and the resilient sparkle of winter. Nicolai's floral art and objects are also scattered throughout the park, adorning the grounds and embodying his aesthetic.
This garden, which maximizes the natural beauty of Hakone as it is, is poised to become an unparalleled spot for fully enjoying nature.
