The Koh Rong archipelago, rich in natural resources such as coral reefs, mangrove forests, sea turtles, whale sharks, and seahorses, boasts one of Southeast Asia's most diverse yet little-known marine environments.



To protect this archipelago, Songsaa Private Island owners Rory and Melita Hunter spearheaded the establishment of the Songsaa Foundation. While Songsaa Private Island has previously engaged in environmental conservation and community programs, the foundation will now continue these activities under its new banner.

Earlier this year, the foundation coordinated the largest medical aid initiative in the archipelago. Currently, they are preparing a mobile sustainability learning center, to be housed in a renovated boat. This project, named "Boat of Hope," is scheduled to commence its learning voyages in late 2014.



Additionally, an activity was held on September 21st (Saturday) to commemorate the foundation's launch. A beach cleanup was conducted as part of the International Coastal Cleanup Day.



Furthermore, a boat race using waste collected from the sea by local children was organized. This event, part of the Songsaa Sea Turtle Study Program for children, aims to raise awareness about marine debris and recycling.

Rory Hunter stated, "As pioneers in resort development in this region, we want to prove that resort development, environmental conservation, and community activities are not conflicting concepts, and to serve as a positive example for future developers."
