"Koyasan Wonder Tours Vol. 1"
On April 29, 2019 (Monday, holiday), during the Golden Week holiday period marking the end of the Heisei era, "Koyasan Wonder Tours Vol. 1: Exploring Koyasan with Ancient Maps" will be held. This tour, guided by Koyasan monks, will explore the ruins around the former Kōzan-ji Tōshōgū Shrine site and Kongōbu-ji Temple, as depicted on old maps.

Spend a Golden Week day amidst Koyasan's sacred temples and ruins
A tour will be held on April 29, 2019 (Monday, holiday), offering a visit to the former Kōzan-ji Tōshōgū Shrine site, an area rarely accessible to general visitors, along with exploring the ruins of sub-temples and parts of the main hall within Kongōbu-ji Temple, the spiritual heart of Koyasan and a center of Esoteric Buddhism.
This tour allows participants to journey between Koyasan's past and present through explanations by monks who are also qualified curators, as they visit the scattered remnants of past devotional sites. Lunch will be provided at a long-established rosary shop, known for its architecture registered as a National Cultural Property, to avoid the anticipated crowds during Golden Week.
The entire tour is conducted on foot. As many sections are unpaved, participants are recommended to wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes or trekking shoes.
Future programs are planned, including a "Garan Night Tour" that explores the path connecting Kongōbu-ji Temple to Garan after sunset, and a program walking along ancient pilgrimage routes. These will offer unique opportunities to delve deeper into Koyasan's history, traditions, and culture.
