Equipped with a Bar Space for Enjoying Local Craft Beer
At "BOOK AND BED TOKYO," a "bookstore you can stay at," you won't find plush mattresses, memory foam pillows, or light, warm down duvets. The best sleeping comfort in ideal conditions is not what we offer here.
The concept behind "BOOK AND BED TOKYO" is to provide the experience of that moment when you realize you've fallen asleep while reading – a moment everyone has likely experienced at least once. Though called a "bookstore you can stay at," books are not sold here. It's a new type of hostel focused on the "moment of falling asleep."
The first location opened in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, in 2015. It was featured in domestic and international media as a new cultural phenomenon in Tokyo and received high praise from users.
The second location, "BOOK AND BED TOKYO Kyoto," has now opened in Kyoto's Gion district. It's conveniently located just a three-minute walk from Keihan Electric Railway's Gion-Shijo Station. This area is a hub for fashion and culture, with many shops lining the streets.
The biggest highlight of the Kyoto location is the "BOOK AND BED AND BEER" bar space, where guests can enjoy craft beers from the Kyoto region.
Additionally, original pajamas designed by the popular pajama brand "NOWHAW," which were also a hit at the Tokyo location, have been newly developed for the Kyoto store. The 8th day of every month is designated "Pajama Day," offering limited rentals for overnight guests.
As with the Ikebukuro store, the graphic design of the space was handled by "Soda design," and the interior design by "SUPPOSE DESIGN OFFICE." In the center of the facility, bookshelves capable of holding up to approximately 5,000 books are arranged like an island. Beds are embedded within the bookshelves, creating a space that feels as if you are sleeping within the books themselves.
Book selection is curated by "Keibunsha Ichijoji," a select shop specializing in "all things related to books" located in Kyoto's Ichijoji district.
In the heart of Kyoto, a city steeped in history and culture, we invite you to experience the blissful sensation of falling asleep amidst the books.
