Concept: "Beyond Jazz, Beyond Next"

The music event "TOKYO LAB" will be held in September. This third iteration features not only "T.O.C Band" but also a gathering of globally active artists. With the debut of a dancer, the event promises developments that go beyond a simple band-pairing format.

Launched in 2017, "TOKYO LAB" views Tokyo as a grand musical laboratory, pursuing a unique jazz, "beyond JAZZ," unbound by the jazz category. Emerging musicians showcase innovative performances that transcend their usual creative boundaries. It is a truly one-of-a-kind music event.
Particularly noteworthy is the appearance of "T.O.C Band," which has generated buzz since the first event. "T.O.C Band" brings together what are considered the "TOP OF TOP" musicians under the direction of Keiichi Tomita, Japan's celebrated pop maestro, to perform instrumental pieces produced, composed, and arranged by Tomita. This event serves as their rare, one-night-only stage each year. Attention will be on what kind of repertoire they will present for this third installment.
This year, an even more unique lineup of performers has been assembled. A must-see is the one-night-only collaboration between Shuta Nishida, a guitarist currently drawing significant attention for his diverse playing styles and wide-ranging activities, and singer-songwriter Kaho Nakamura.
Also appearing are Shunsuke Onishi's latest project "smtk," led by the globally active drummer, and guitarist Mei Inoue, who is also invited to festivals worldwide. Furthermore, dancer Aoi Yamada, who is capturing attention in the fashion and music scenes, will make her debut at a music event.
"TOKYO LAB 2019" is an event that truly signifies the direction of next-generation music (beyond NEXT), transcending the boundaries of a mere band-pairing event. It promises to be an unmissable occasion for music lovers.
