A Countdown Project Towards the 100th Anniversary of Jazz Records

In 1917, the world's first jazz recording was made by the Original Dixieland Jass Band. The '100 Jazz Albums.' campaign features prestigious jazz labels under Universal Music's rights, including Blue Note, Prestige, Riverside, Verve, and ECM. This is a countdown project celebrating the history of jazz records, which will reach its 100th anniversary in 2017.

Many of the albums being released this time were recorded in the 1950s and 60s, half a century ago. The lineup itself should demonstrate how jazz has transcended time and continues to be cherished.

In the United States, the birthplace of jazz, reissues of classic jazz albums on analog vinyl have recently become a boom among younger generations. Furthermore, this September, Lady Gaga released a duet album 'Cheek to Cheek' with jazz legend Tony Bennett, drawing renewed attention to jazz.

Therefore, in Japan as well, under the title '100 Jazz Albums.,' 100 masterpieces will be re-released, including "Waltz for Debby," "The Köln Concert," "Moanin'," and "What a Wonderful World." These albums feature songs that even those less familiar with jazz may have heard before.

Additionally, the campaign's character, 'Jazz Boya,' is designed by the illustration team '100%ORANGE,' aiming to dispel the image of jazz as 'stuffy' and create a more approachable campaign.
