Tokyo Crossover/Jazz Festival 2014

The "Tokyo Crossover/Jazz Festival," a music festival originating from Japan, is renowned as the nation's foremost celebration of club jazz and crossover music. After a one-year hiatus, it returns on Sunday, November 9th, at EX THEATER ROPPONGI in Tokyo.

Shuya Okino (Kyoto Jazz Massive), initiator of the TCJF

The "Tokyo Crossover/Jazz Festival 2014" began in 2003, initiated by Shuya Okino of Kyoto Jazz Massive. It boasts the largest scale and highest caliber lineup among music festivals that gather artists from the domestic and international club jazz and crossover music scenes.

This year features a special live set commemorating Shuya Okino's 20th anniversary. Joined by NAVASHA DAYA and VANESSA FREEMAN, the performance will include his solo tracks and repertoire from his close associate "ROOT SOUL," promising an all-star selection.

The other Japanese live act is "Jazztronik," a participant in the TCJF since its inaugural year. They return for their third appearance, the first in six years, with a seven-piece ensemble featuring strings.

From overseas, Maylee Todd, based in Canada, will perform with her band. Dubbed "Lady Gaga meets Norah Jones," her track "Baby's Got It" received heavy airplay on radio stations nationwide last year, marking her breakthrough. She was also awarded Best Female Vocalist at the "JaJ AWARDS," a music prize established this year and presented on the InterFM program "JAZZ ain’t Jazz," hosted by Shuya Okino.

Also making his long-awaited debut is Eddy Ramich, the mastermind behind Croatia's legendary "FUTURE JAZZ FESTIVAL," an event that inspired Shuya Okino to launch TCJF. Additionally, Toshio Matsuura, who launched the project "HEX" in 2013 to broadcast contemporary jazz from Tokyo to the world with four talented musicians, and "Shaocho," the agitator of the highly popular "Soil & “Pimp”Sessions," known for transcending the boundaries of jazz and rock both domestically and internationally, are confirmed to perform.

Further highlights include a dream collaboration: a Back To Back JAZZ set featuring Shuya Okino, Shinichi Osawa, and Tomoyuki Tanaka (FPM). These three artists from Kyoto will deliver a special performance for TCJF's 10th anniversary. On a Sunday afternoon, in a new urban space in Roppongi, exceptional music will unfold, unlike anywhere else.
