Vocalists Including Yoshie Nakano (EGO-WRAPPIN') Participate from Japan and Abroad

Toshio Matsuura has been a driving force in Japan's club scene since the 1990s, consistently presenting "jazz" as danceable music from Japan. HEX, which he leads, makes its debut on Blue Note, a jazz label celebrating its 75th anniversary next year.



The new project, named HEX after the hexagon and also meaning "to cast a spell," comprises five members: songwriter/keyboardist Kan Sano, drummer Midorin from SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS, Yoshihiro Ito who works in jazz, Latin, and film music, bassist Katsuhito Koizumi P, and Toshio Matsuura. Furthermore, listeners and guest artists who collaborate in creating the music form the final corner, completing the "hexagon."



The highly anticipated debut album features three distinctive vocalists: Yoshie Nakano from "EGO-WRAPPIN'," Ed Motta, and Grey Reverend, with guests from Japan, the United States, and Brazil. It includes eight original tracks.


Henrik Schwarz, a leading figure in German deep house and electronic music, praises the music, stating, "The sound and style paint a magnificent rainbow." Nicola Conte, a central figure in the new European jazz scene and a DJ/producer active in Italy, expresses his delight, "Toshio Matsuura is finally back as a recording artist." He adds, "It has uplifting jazz and tribal vibes, and it possesses a truly contemporary and worldwide atmosphere that should be heard by all music lovers."


As Blue Note approaches its 75th anniversary in 2014, HEX is set to send shockwaves through the global music scene from Japan. The significant impact they will bring will undoubtedly be etched as a new page in the history of jazz music.
