Jazzanova's Alex Barck Announces Debut Solo Album!

Sounds Born on the Island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean
In the late 1990s, the club jazz scene as we know it was expanding worldwide, encompassing diverse genres like Brazilian, soundtracks, trip-hop, and drum and bass. Amidst this, in 1997, a 12-inch record arrived from Germany's Future Jazz label Compost, labeled "Jazzanova EP1" from the JCR label. This track, with its futuristic feel, blended jazz beats with Brazilian percussion and cinematic choruses, evolving into a house beat. This was the debut track, "Fedime's Flight," from what is now a globally renowned club jazz collective, Jazzanova.JazzanovaThis new production was favored by U.F.O., who enlisted them as remixers for a planned remix album, despite their relative obscurity in Japan at the time. The following year, they were selected for U.F.O.'s "Phonofile" DJ mix series, gaining recognition in Japan.

With their second EP, "Caravelle," a super-fast breakbeat exceeding 140 BPM, they achieved further success. Subsequently, they became a pivotal force in the scene, handling remixes and productions for numerous artists.

Then, in 2002, their highly anticipated debut album, "In Between," was released. This masterpiece, a sublime blend of sampling and live instrumentation, is still celebrated as one of the pinnacles of club jazz. After "Of All The Things" (2008), which leaned towards a more soulful approach, they formed a live band for their third album, "Funkhaus Studio Session," released last year. They continue to be active, touring extensively worldwide, including at Japan's Fuji Rock Festival.
In 2011, he released his first work outside of Jazzanova with the German producer Christian Prommer as the unit Prommer & Barck. He subsequently became more active in solo work. The album created during the year he spent with his family on the French island of Réunion, located in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar, is titled"Reunion"it.
The music, born in the incredibly relaxed environment of this small volcanic island with its majestic central mountains and beautiful nature, can be described as electric dance soul, featuring simple rhythm tracks and soulful vocals by Ernest, Pete Joseph, and Jonathan Beckley. It's a pleasant album with arrangements that evoke Africa sprinkled throughout. With the completion of this solo album, I, and surely many others, eagerly anticipate what Alex Barck and Jazzanova will do next upon their return to Berlin, Germany.
