Three Buzzworthy UK Artists Right Now!
It’s been years since people started saying music isn't selling and the scene lacks vitality. While Japan and the rest of the world might seem to be in a critical situation, that’s not quite the case. In the UK, revenue from overseas is reportedly growing year by year, in addition to domestic sales.
Given my own strong connection to British music, and the fact that the majority of works introduced on TOKYO MOON are from the UK, I can feel the diversity of artists and the strength of the scene. It’s undeniable that the emerging young artists are revitalizing the music industry. This time, I’ll introduce three of them who are drawing attention.
1. A Duo Poised to Lead the Next Wave of Pop Music
First up is AlunaGeorge, a duo consisting of singer Aluna Francis and track-maker George Reid, who released an album with a major label just a few years after starting their activities.
Their sound, a fusion of Aluna's cool yet cute vocals, which evoke the mood of 1990s R&B, and George's chaotic sound production, reminiscent of underground beat music, possesses a strength that could make it the mainstream of the next pop music. With their Japan tour imminent, it will be interesting to see how they are received here.
2. A Trio That Broke Through Online
Next is London Grammar, a mixed-gender trio that suddenly appeared early this year. Hannah Reid's powerful vocals, which seem to soar into the sky, combined with Don Ross's melancholic, minimalist guitar and Dot Major's atmospheric rhythms... Their song "Hey Now," released online prior to their debut, has garnered over 800,000 plays in seven months despite their unknown status.
DisclosureTheir popularity is growing daily, including their participation in the album of Disclosure, a sibling duo also from the UK whom we introduced here previously. I plan to cover their debut album, set for release in September, as well.

3. Pop Music Infused with Diverse Elements
And finally, we introduce Gang Colours, a project by Will Ozanne, a young singer-songwriter from the independent label Brownswood Recordings, run by London DJ Gilles Peterson.
This is blue-eyed soul, with delicate and beautiful piano and synths creating an atmosphere for vocals that are both pop and melancholic. It might be described as noteworthy pop music where diverse musical elements are seamlessly integrated, defying easy categorization into genres like post-dubstep or electronica. A new release is also scheduled for September.

At TOKYO MOON, we aim to introduce fresh music from around the world with as little delay as possible, so please stay tuned.
