A New Star of the Indie Scene with a Classical Music Background is Born!
A smoky, sexy voice. And a romantic appearance.──Melody Prochet, who embodies the image of a "French Pop Girl." However, what has captured the attention of indie fans worldwide is not just her appearance. It is her musicality, possessing a depth uncharacteristic of a newcomer, that captivates listeners, drawing them into a rich world.
She has a background in classical music. During her student days, she studied at a music school and was part of an orchestra, dedicating her time to practicing the viola. Hearing about her background makes her unique musicality understandable. She seems to have actively wanted to incorporate classical elements into this album.
"I'd always had the idea of creating music incorporating classical elements. I wanted to make something strict and restrained, but as soon as I started recording, I found myself escaping those constraints and shifting towards sounds and arrangements that weren't as extreme as I'd initially envisioned. I think it was my instinct guiding me."

The Sound Created by Two Opposites
The task of bringing together these meandering sounds and arrangements fell to Kevin Parker of the Australian band Tame Impala. Prochet, raised on classical music, and Parker, who crafts psychedelic rock with heavy basslines and gritty electronic sounds. Despite their vastly different backgrounds, their individualities proved to be a strength in their songwriting.
"In a way, because we are opposites, we were able to complement each other's weaknesses. Thanks to Kevin, I was able to break down my previous work and then, piece by piece, reassemble it, achieving a perfect balance of classical, psychedelic, and raw elements."
They are also a couple in real life. The incredibly catchy, laid-back, and simple guitar lines, along with the ethereal and romantic hooks, possess a pure pop sensibility while simultaneously exuding an edgy, dangerous charm. Listening intently, one is overcome with a sense of exhilaration, as if being carried away somewhere far with the music. The slightly melancholic atmosphere that envelops the entire album is further enhanced by lyrics that fluidly move between her native French and English.
"Honestly, it was the first time I'd ever written and sung a song in French. I hadn't wanted to do it before; it just didn't feel right... I only listened to music in English, and in English, I could sing silly things more easily. Of course, there are many French singers I love. Perhaps that's why I felt I couldn't compete with them and couldn't sing in French. But then, while recording alone at my grandfather's beach house in Cavalaire (Southern France), I found myself naturally humming melodies in French. The lyrics were very simple, almost childish in a way. But it felt so natural. Perhaps it was the right balance for me."
