From Taiwanese Shoegaze to Korean Bedroom Pop and Thai Belle & Sebastian
manic sheep『Brooklyn』
Taiwanese four-piece shoegaze band, manic sheep. Their debut album『Manic Sheep』, with its lo-fi sound and Chris's cute vocals, garnered fervent support from Japanese post-rock and shoegaze fans, as well as international artists. They have opened for top indie acts like KYTE, The Album Leaf, and Neon Indian, and performed at Fuji Rock for two consecutive years. Their second album,『Brooklyn』, showcases a stronger band identity and a cooler, more refined sound. The heartwarming melodies that make you want to sing along are still present.
Neon Bunny 『Stay Gold』
Neon Bunny, a bedroom pop singer from Seoul, South Korea. The American music publication "Pitchfork" selected "It's You" from her new album『Stay Gold』as one of the "20 Essential K-Pop Songs." She has also been featured repeatedly in the British culture magazine "Dazed & Confused," garnering significant attention from Western media. Her exotic vocals, sung in Korean and English, are layered over contemporary synth sounds ranging from chillstep to Future Bass, creating a work that perfectly showcases her identity.
Part time Musicians
Thai pop band, Part time Musicians. They performed at Thailand's largest outdoor music festival, "Big Mountain Music Festival 2015," and their album『Guava songs』is said to be "the best-selling album of the decade" in Thailand, making them one of the hottest bands there. They made their Japanese debut last October with the Japanese release of the same-titled album and performed at "earth garden 2016 autumn," captivating the audience at Yoyogi Park. Their accessible pop melodies, reminiscent of BELLE AND SEBASTIAN, combined with sophisticated co-ed vocals, evoke a continental "Western music" feel, and they are sure to gain more Japanese fans.
Trampauline
Korean synth-pop band, Trampauline. Their nostalgic, new-wave sound and the charming street style of the band members have attracted attention not only from music fans but also from the fashion industry. They have been featured in international fashion magazines like "Vogue," "Harper's Bazaar," and "GQ," as well as domestic publications. During their first visit to Japan, they held an in-store live performance at agnès b. Omotesando. They also participated as a special guest in the first Japan tour in 10 years by Lali Puna, a prominent artist on Germany's Morr Music, receiving constant acclaim from edgy industry insiders. Hyosun's unpretentious, soaring vocals are also deeply moving.
落日飛車(Sunset Rollercoaster)
Taiwanese five-piece rock band, 落日飛車 (Sunset Rollercoaster). They are a standout act in Taiwan and performed at SUMMER SONIC 2011, riding the wave of the Japanese city pop boom. For their Tokyo performance during the new EP『JINJI KIKKO』Japan tour, they shared the stage with leading Japanese indie artists of the younger generation, such as Shamcats and The Natsuyasumi Band. Their Taiwanese-infused AOR and psychedelic sound, combined with the vocalist's mellow delivery, has created a growing number of fans in Japan. While they are making waves in Taiwan's indie scene, their influence has already reached Japan with the speed of a roller coaster.
