This film's narrative extends beyond a simple romance between a man and a woman. It delicately depicts various human relationships, including those of couples, parents and children, and friends, culminating in a story that leaves every viewer feeling happy.

Keira Knightley, playing the singer-songwriter Gretta, makes her debut singing with a charming voice while playing the guitar. Mark Ruffalo delivers a powerful performance as Dan Mulligan, embodying both his free-spiritedness and his vulnerability. Also noteworthy is the screen debut of Adam Levine, lead singer of the popular rock band Maroon 5, who plays Gretta's boyfriend, Dave.

The film features performance scenes set against the backdrop of New York's diverse cityscape, including the Empire State Building, Central Park, and subway platforms. During filming, pre-recorded music was played, and the cast's live vocals were captured, creating energetic performance scenes brimming with a sense of immediacy.

The Happiest of Stories Begins on the Worst of Days


Dan, a washed-up music producer, is living alone in a rundown apartment, estranged from his wife and daughter. He has just been fired from his job, with his career in shambles. Meanwhile, Gretta, an aspiring musician, has been betrayed by her lover and is on the verge of giving up on her musical dreams.

The two meet by chance at a New York live house and decide to create music together. With no money, they begin recording, using the streets of New York as their makeshift studio. The many encounters forged through music lead to unexpected developments, marking the start of a precious time spent confronting their own lives.
