Director Klaartje Quirijns Followed Him Closely for Four Years
Anton Corbijn, hailed as the "world's greatest rock photographer," commands immense respect from countless artists for his meticulously composed images that capture the essence of his subjects. His multi-faceted talent has driven the cultural scene, extending beyond shooting for top artists like The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Nirvana, and Coldplay to encompass album art direction, stage design, and music video production.

In recent years, Corbijn has also been actively involved in filmmaking. His directorial debut, "Control" (2007), a film inspired by Ian Curtis, garnered international acclaim and won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He further demonstrated his prowess by venturing into Hollywood with "The American" (2010), starring George Clooney, which topped the US box office charts.
Despite his long and successful career in the spotlight, Corbijn remains intensely private about his personal life. The documentary traces his journey from his birth in 1955 as the son of a pastor in the Netherlands to becoming a world-renowned rock photographer. It is Dutch filmmaker Klaartje Quirijns, known for her documentaries on violent criminals in prison and arms dealers, who spent four years shadowing Corbijn to explore the solitude and sorrow that lie beneath the surface of the legendary photographer's life.
"Musicians Aspire to Be the Person Seen in Anton Corbijn's Photographs"
The film weaves together Corbijn's iconic works with intimate footage of his creative process alongside global artists such as U2, Depeche Mode, Metallica, Lou Reed, and George Clooney. Precious interviews with U2's Bono and Martin Gore reveal a deep connection that transcends the artist-photographer relationship, shedding light on Corbijn's lesser-known personal side.

As Bono states, "Musicians aspire to be the person seen in Anton Corbijn's photographs." This documentary offers a rare glimpse into the struggles and true self of a rock photographer who has created countless icons through his images and artwork, revealing a side of him he has never before shown.
