Iggy Pop, the rock singer, boasts a music career spanning nearly 50 years. A legend in rock, he continues to profoundly influence subsequent major bands such as the Sex Pistols, Guns N' Roses, Nirvana, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The album 'POST POP DEPRESSION,' released in 2016, is rumored to be Iggy Pop's final album. The production began when Iggy, planning to record at his own expense, personally approached Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age to produce it.
'POST POP DEPRESSION' became one of the biggest hits under Iggy Pop's name, and the accompanying tour achieved success with all performances sold out.
The film 'American Valhalla,' which chronicles the album's creation and tour, will now have its theatrical release in Japan.
This documentary follows the journey from the beginnings of Iggy and Josh's collaboration, through the initial demo recordings and album release, to the live performance at London's Royal Albert Hall.
Josh Homme is one of the many musicians influenced by Iggy Pop. As a child, he listened to the soundtrack of 'Repo Man' at full volume every day, which inspired him to pick up the guitar. Decades later, he received an unexpected call from his idol, who asked him to collaborate on music. What began as a casual collaboration ultimately resulted in the creation of the iconic album 'POST POP DEPRESSION' for both artists.
In addition to Iggy and Homme, the production involved Dean Fertita, Homme's bandmate in Queens of the Stone Age, and Matt Helders, the drummer for Arctic Monkeys.
The film captures the rare moments of songwriting and recording sessions conducted in the middle of the Mojave Desert, completely isolated from the outside world and unknown to those not involved.
The film is set to premiere on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Shinjuku Cinema Qualité, with a subsequent nationwide release. It's a must-see documentary for Iggy Pop and rock fans alike.
