Star-Studded Cast Attends LA Premiere

Director Edgar Wright has earned critical acclaim for his sharp comedic sensibility, visual techniques, and diverse film references in works such as "Shaun of the Dead" and "The World's End."

His latest film, "Baby Driver," marks his full-fledged Hollywood feature debut as writer and director, and it will be released nationwide on Saturday, August 19, 2017.

Hired for his exceptional driving skills, the young driver, known as "Baby," works as a getaway driver for criminal organizations. His secret weapon for unleashing his ultimate technique? An iPod filled with the perfect playlists. Suffering from tinnitus since a childhood accident, he transforms into a daredevil driver when completely immersed in music.


One day, he meets the girl of his dreams, Debora, and decides to leave his life of crime. However, the crime boss, unwilling to lose his talent, discovers Debora's existence, forcing Baby to participate in a reckless heist. His life begins to hang in the balance—.

The film premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March, where it won the Audience Award. It also achieved "100% Fresh" on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. With its dialogue and driving scenes choreographed to the soundtrack, it has been hailed as a "La La Land" of car chases.

The protagonist, Baby, is played by Ansel Elgort, who captivated audiences with his charming looks in "The Fault in Our Stars" and "Divergent." The heroine is portrayed by Lily James, whose fresh performance in "Cinderella" is still memorable.

The crew Baby teams up with includes Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, John Hamm, who broke through with the TV series "Mad Men," and Eiza González, who showcases her alluring charm as his girlfriend. The ensemble cast also features two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey as the boss who orchestrates the team, adding to the film's buzz.


On June 14, the premiere screening was held in Los Angeles, attended by director Edgar Wright and the cast. A throng of reporters and fans from around the world gathered on the red carpet, creating an atmosphere of intense excitement and energy.

Also present at the venue were Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, who has a cameo in the film, and Sky Ferreira. R&B singer Luke James also made an appearance.

The premiere screening was also held in London, director Wright's home country, with Martin Freeman of the drama "Sherlock" in attendance, further fueling the excitement.


Regarding the film, director Edgar Wright commented, "The film began with John Spencer's song, which is also used in the opening. I listened to it over and over, thinking it was perfect for a car chase. I hadn't even imagined what kind of film it would be back then. I've been nurturing this concept for over 10 years, so I can't believe it's finally taken shape not just in my head but as a film. I'm thrilled!"

The film has already been released in the US to widespread acclaim. Top Hollywood creators have rushed to theaters and tweeted their impressions. We can hardly wait for the Japanese release date.
