Part 3: Ultimate Escapism in the Heart of the City

An Urban Oasis

Before I knew it, autumn had arrived. Every year, summer seems to fly by in a blur, and before I realize it, it's autumn. Hello, it's Reiko. Where did my summer go? To console myself, I stayed at Hoshinoya Tokyo, which opened on July 20th.

A Ryokan Appears in the Heart of Tokyo

Hoshinoya Tokyo, a Japanese ryokan soaring like a tower, has suddenly appeared in Otemachi, Tokyo's business district. A ryokan in the heart of Tokyo – it's quite an unusual concept, isn't it?

Step inside the 17-story tower and enter another world!

Inside, a serene space unfolds, filled with traditional Japanese interiors and a comforting ambiance that evokes ancient Japanese relaxation. Leaving my shoes at the entrance, I took a moment to breathe. Perhaps it's because I'm Japanese?

Taking off my shoes and entering the inn is incredibly calming.

Upon entering, your eyes are met with a fantastical space. Woven wisteria boxes serve as shoe lockers for guests. With bare feet, I felt the tatami beneath me as I made my way to the room. The silence here makes you forget you're in the center of Tokyo!

I headed to my room.

Each floor features a "Chonoma Lounge," a relaxing communal space designed to ensure guests on different floors don't cross paths. The lounges are adorned with ceramics by young artists, creating an inviting atmosphere. The rooms, of course, are floored with tatami.

The futon-style beds use special mattresses custom-made for Hoshinoya Tokyo, offering exceptional comfort. Looking out the window, the view of Otemachi's skyscrapers through the exterior designed with Edo komon patterns is both surreal and exhilarating!

The only dining option is the basement restaurant, offering course menus. Given its Otemachi location, dining out is also a great choice.

Natural Hot Springs in Otemachi!

What I particularly loved was the natural hot spring!

I'd never heard of a natural hot spring in the heart of Tokyo!

The spring water, drawn from 1,500 meters below ground, is rich in iodine and has a uniquely viscous, amber hue. It feels like a golden bath!

The hot spring is located on the top floor, offering views of the Tokyo sky through the open ceiling. Hoshinoya Tokyo is a recommended escape for adults.
