Wandering Skytree

“Unbowed by rain, unbowed by wind.” Standing tall and unchanging is the new symbol tower in Tokyo’s shitamachi district, Tokyo Skytree. Our editorial team, based in the same Sumida ward, captured the daytime and nighttime faces of this 634-meter-tall tower.

What LED Lighting Can Do

The lighting of Tokyo Skytree was designed to evoke “Mount Fuji at night,” gently floating in the sky. It’s a light with subtle nuances, favored by the Japanese aesthetic. The design was handled by young lighting designer Hiroto Tō. “I wanted to express Japanese sentiment,” he says.

A New Face of “Shitamachi” Comprising 312 Stores

Tokyo Skytree officially opens on May 22nd. As our editorial department is located in the same Sumida ward, this is hardly an unrelated event. OPENERS will participate in a preview of “Tokyo Solamachi,” a large-scale commercial facility at the foot of the Skytree, held on May 18th (Friday). We will deliver the proceedings via Ustream broadcast.
