The American whiskey "SirDavis," co-developed by American artist Beyoncé and Moët Hennessy, makes its Japan debut in 2024. This new whiskey is a fusion of Beyoncé's personal passion and Moët Hennessy's expertise.
A Tribute to Her Great-Grandfather
"SirDavis" was developed over several years to realize Beyoncé's ideal whiskey. In honor of her great-grandfather, Davis Hoag, who made moonshine in the American South during Prohibition, she created this whiskey to revive his legacy.
The name "SirDavis" is inspired by her great-grandfather. It is said that Davis Hoag would hide whiskey bottles in knot holes of cedar trees and share them secretly with close friends.
As a lover of Japanese whiskey, Beyoncé collaborated with Moët Hennessy to bring her ideal whiskey to life, completing it over several years to achieve a unique flavor.
Dr. Bill Lumsden, Moët Hennessy's esteemed Master Distiller, led this project. Dr. Lumsden selected a custom mash bill of 51% rye and 49% malted barley, unusual for American whiskey, and finished it in sherry casks. This process resulted in an elegant mouthfeel and the deep flavor of classic American rye.
"SirDavis was created to challenge the conventions of American whiskey and introduce something new. Through its unique ingredient selection and rare sherry cask finishing, we have achieved a bold, sophisticated, and distinctive flavor," says Dr. Bill Lumsden.
Tasting notes reveal a color ranging from copper to rich mahogany. The aroma offers notes of fresh Seville orange and toffee butter cream, classic barrel spice, cinnamon, red berries, and clove. The palate, a result of the custom rye and barley mash bill double-aged in sherry casks, presents a silky, refined taste with layers of rich red fruits and spice.
Before its release, SirDavis's quality was anonymously evaluated in numerous prestigious spirits competitions. It received a Double Gold Medal (95 points) at the 2023 New York International Spirits Competition and 93 points at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge, following its Best in Class award in the American Whiskey category at the 2023 SIP Awards.
Beyoncé herself designed the bottle, embodying a luxurious aesthetic. The tall bottle features vertically grooved glass that beautifully captures light, accentuating the amber liquid. A distinctive bronze horse medallion, symbolizing Texas, represents strength and respect.

SirDavis is finished, blended, and bottled in Texas. As the first spirits brand wholly developed by Moët Hennessy USA, it marks a historic milestone and is poised to set a new standard for American whiskey.
