The legendary dining event "Sushi Champagne NIGHT" returns to Shibuya, Tokyo on Sunday, July 4, 2021.

EAT | Sushi Champagne NIGHT

Michelin-starred "Sushi Yuu" and its sister restaurant "Sushi Zai" collaborate for an exquisite dining experience pairing premium sushi with prestige Champagne.

Held three times previously in Osaka's five-star hotels since 2018, "Sushi Champagne NIGHT" has been a resounding success each time. This is Japan's most sophisticated dining event, where reservation-difficult sushi restaurants, including Michelin-starred and award-winning establishments, set up one-day pop-up tables. These are paired with collaborations from renowned Champagne houses, and further enhanced by the creativity of DJs and artists active both domestically and internationally, through music and visuals. The summer 2021 edition of this event will take place on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at "CÉ LA VI Tokyo" in Shibuya, Tokyo.

A delicate yet bold story woven by the perfect harmony between sushi and Champagne, orchestrated by two master chefs.

It's no longer the case that sake is the only suitable accompaniment for sushi. The delicate bubbles and crisp, beautiful finish of Champagne perfectly complement the nuanced flavors of expertly crafted sushi.
"Sushi Champagne NIGHT" is dedicated to exploring this new marriage of flavors. Just as a sushi course tells a story, "Sushi Champagne NIGHT" also imbues its Champagne selections with a narrative. For instance, starting with a crisp "Blanc de Blancs" highlighting the freshness of white grapes, moving through a voluptuous rosé, and then pairing aged tuna, sea urchin, and conger eel with equally mature vintage Champagnes. For the July 4, 2021 event, Dom Pérignon has confirmed its sponsorship. Consequently, alongside Dom Pérignon, a full lineup of prestige cuvées from the MHD group, including KRUG, Veuve Clicquot, and Ruinart, is scheduled to be featured.
Master Chef Ozaki of "Sushi Yuu" (left) and Master Chef Okada of "Sushi Zai" (right). From the "3rd Sushi Champagne NIGHT" held in Osaka in February 2020.
This event features sushi from two restaurants: "Sushi Yuu" (Roppongi) and "Sushi Zai" (Hiroo). "Sushi Yuu" has been a Michelin one-star recipient for four consecutive years since its opening. Chef Ozaki's exceptionalトーク, combined with entertaining table presentations, is known as "theatrical." Meanwhile, Chef Okada of "Sushi Zai" was recognized with GQ Japan's Restaurant of the Year in 2019. His restaurant is gaining attention for its increasing media presence and difficulty in securing reservations.
In fact, the two restaurants are sister establishments. Chef Okada, who was previously the second-in-command at "Sushi Yuu," branched out to open "Sushi Zai." Therefore, both chefs once prepared sushi at the same counter.
Despite being sister restaurants, they operate as separate entities. Normally, ingredient selection, rice preparation, and side dishes would differ. However, for this event, they will offer a special menu that combines the best of both establishments. Furthermore, the addition of flavors from "CÉ LA VI Tokyo," known for its expertise in Asian cuisine, promises an even more exciting experience.
The dining experience is divided into three sessions. The first and second sessions will feature sushi prepared by both master chefs, while the third session will showcase the skills of their younger protégés. The price difference between the first/second sessions and the third is due to this arrangement. Both "Sushi Yuu" and "Sushi Zai" place great importance on nurturing young talent. To allow these aspiring chefs to fully demonstrate their abilities, the third session has been designated for their special participation in this event.
In addition to the seated dining experience, "Sushi Champagne NIGHT" also offers a more casual way to enjoy sushi and Champagne in a lounge setting. This takes place outdoors on the sky deck.
On the sky deck, both "Sushi Yuu" and "Sushi Zai" will have booths offering a casual street-food style experience with special sushi menus prepared on-site by the chefs.
Of course, a selection of Champagnes by the glass, as well as various bottle options, will be available.
The VVIP seats are also noteworthy. These include a pre-arranged sushi platter from both "Sushi Yuu" and "Sushi Zai." Even if you couldn't secure a premium seat for the main dining event, these VVIP seats offer a dedicated space to sit and leisurely enjoy the sushi from both restaurants. The DJs on the sky deck sound system are also a highlight. These artists, active primarily in Tokyo, offer a diverse lineup ranging from smooth lounge house to high-energy festival sets.
Sushi and Champagne, complemented by music and the comfort of the open air. This is the most cutting-edge event, heralding the dawn of a new normal.
