Scarpetta Tokyo, the first Asian outpost of New York's modern Italian restaurant Scarpetta, opened on October 3, 2022, within Tokyo World Gate, directly connected to Kamiya-cho Station. With its dimly lit, sophisticated ambiance, a soundscape filled with pleasant music, and the signature New York-style comfort, it's a hip nightspot that demands attention.
A Cru Table for Tokyo: Featuring Original Cocktails
For three years, dining out was restricted due to the pandemic, a period that made us realize anew how precious and joyful it is to share meals with others. As this joy gradually returns, a highly anticipated restaurant has opened in Tokyo's Kamiya-cho.
The restaurant is called "Scarpetta Tokyo." Scarpetta, with its concept of "unpretentious yet elegant service," is a highly popular Italian restaurant in New York, frequented by celebrities and connoisseurs alike. Currently operating in eight locations across four countries (as of November 2022), it has now arrived in Tokyo as its first Asian flagship.
Scarpetta's signature dish is the "Spaghetti with Tomato and Basil." The pasta is handmade in-house, with a sauce of Roma tomatoes perfectly balanced with basil, butter, and Italian olive oil. This has been a consistently popular dish since the restaurant's founding in 2008. The complexity of the tomato sauce and the satisfyingly generous portion size truly embody the New York style.
The restaurant's logo color mirrors that of the "Tomato and Basil" sauce, representing the trace left when one uses bread to scoop up the remaining sauce from the plate – the act of 'scarpetta.' This evocative detail signifies deliciousness down to the last bite, whetting the appetite and conveying the joy of dining.
For first-time visitors, the "New York" course (7 dishes) is recommended. It features the beloved spaghetti, along with all the popular dishes offered in the U.S. Additionally, courses uniquely created for Tokyo are also available.
The cuisine at Scarpetta Tokyo retains the essence of its original flavors while subtly enhancing umami elements familiar to the Japanese palate.
Furthermore, as a unique initiative for Tokyo, we offer a "Cru Table." Here, guests can enjoy finger foods and drinks, making it an ideal spot for a casual stop after work or during a brief respite – a sophisticated indulgence for the modern urbanite.
The drinks menu is also extensive. The wine list, curated under the supervision of the chief sommelier and wine director of the New York flagship, features a selection of Italian and American wines, from affordable regional options to rare vintages, reflecting current trends.
The cocktail menu includes eight Scarpetta original cocktails, reimagined in a modern Italian style, alongside four Tokyo-exclusive creations. Choosing the perfect drink to match your companion, the occasion, or the meal promises to be a delightful experience.
The interior design is also noteworthy. The walls of the private dining rooms feature bold colors and patterns inspired by Japan's seasonal flora, creating an authentic, modern New York-style ambiance.
