Biodegradable in 3 Months. Made from Sugarcane and Corn.

Hiramatsu has begun serving straws made from natural materials at all of its restaurants and hotels. What was the key consideration in choosing a material different from plastic or paper?

Focusing on Natural Flavor and Mouthfeel

Hiramatsu began as a French restaurant in 1982. Since its founding, it has pursued "deliciousness that brings out the best in ingredients," and now operates 29 restaurants and cafes, and 5 hotels.
Hiramatsu has now started offering highly biodegradable "sugarcane fiber straws" at all of its facilities.
These straws are made from the pulp of organically grown sugarcane, combined with environmentally friendly, biodegradable PLA (derived from corn).
The Plastics Industry Development Center in Taiwan has certified that this product contains no plastic components such as PP, PE, PS, PVC, or PET, and the Compost Manufacturing Alliance in Canada has announced test results showing biodegradation within 3 months.
In adopting these eco-straws, Hiramatsu prioritized ensuring they would not alter the flavor of beverages and would offer a natural mouthfeel.
The sugarcane material was chosen for its ability to provide an environmentally friendly option without compromising the original taste of the ingredients.
Unlike paper straws, these do not impart a papery flavor or stick to the lips. Furthermore, like plastic straws, their drinking end does not change even with prolonged use.
Maintaining the enjoyment of a meal while looking towards the future. This is Hiramatsu's answer.
