Partially Using "Tartan" Barley, It Features a Distinct Smoky Edge
Founded in 1798, Highland Park is known as Scotland's northernmost distillery, yet it is also recognized as one of its most prestigious. It consistently receives high acclaim, including being named "World's Best Single Malt" at the World Whiskies Awards in 2009.
Highland Park is now releasing the limited edition bottle, "Valknut."
This bottle is the second release in the "Viking Legends Series," following the previous "Valkyrie." The series features designs strongly inspired by Viking culture, with the packaging created by Jim McEwan, who has Viking ancestry.
"Valknut" means "knot of those slain in battle," and the symbol, a design of three interlocked triangles, has been depicted in numerous artifacts since the Viking age.
This mark is said to symbolize the transition from life to death, and the connection between earthly and heavenly existence.
The box for "Valknut" features this symbol, creating a mystical package. The whisky, primarily using spirit matured in American oak sherry casks, has a slightly stronger peat aroma than its predecessor, with a sweet fragrance that spreads.
Partially using "Tartan" barley cultivated on the Orkney Islands, the result is a finish with a distinct smoky edge.
Perfect for enjoying on your own or as a gift this season.
