Experience a Lifestyle Story of Food and Living at a Ginza Rice Shop

On Wednesday, April 24, 2013, AKOMEYA TOKYO, a new lifestyle shop focused on rice, will open in Ginza. The store will feature a curated selection of rice from across Japan, along with a variety of items to enhance your dining table, such as carefully selected seasonings and accompaniments for rice. It also aims to be a place that cultivates a new rice culture by blending traditional techniques with contemporary sensibilities, offering diverse proposals for enjoying a rich life.

Flavorful Rice, Artisanal Seasonings, and Everyday Essentials

“A rice shop, but not just a rice shop.”──Enriching the dining table with a bowl of freshly cooked white rice (food), and the daily life that unfolds around it (living and attire). AKOMEYA TOKYO focuses on "rice = gohan," the centerpiece of this food culture.

Featuring flavorful rice, artisanal seasonings, and convenient tools to brighten everyday life, the shop values the background of craftsmanship and the dedication of its makers. It offers approximately 6,000 items, blending both traditional and contemporary, Japanese and Western influences, including long-loved food products and highly refined tools, as well as Japan's proud industrial products. In essence, it's "a rice shop, but not just a rice shop." A truly new kind of store has been born.

Even a glimpse at some of the product lineup reveals its uniqueness. For instance, chef Kiichi Kumagai of the renowned Western restaurant "KIHACHI" has selected ingredients, and the "Hobonichi Shimbun" (Almost Daily Itoi News), known for its quality content, will present a curated section themed "Hobonichi's Food." Limited edition collaboration items with the popular apparel brand "minä perhonen" are also planned. The first release will feature an original design of a traditional Japanese cooking apron and a drawstring bag for rice.

From "TEMBEA," a maker of durable canvas bags, comes an AKOMEYA-exclusive tote bag designed to conveniently carry 5kg of rice. Also noteworthy are the opening commemorative items: an original blend of rice supervised by Kiichi Kumagai, presented in a special "minä perhonen" branded masu (wooden measuring box).

An Eat-in Corner and Standing Bar Also Adorn the Space

Similar to the products offered, the rice itself is a point of particular focus. The store will mill and sell approximately 18 varieties of rice on-site, including award-winning "Tsuyahime" and "Yumegokochi" from Yamagata Kurosawa Farm, as well as carefully selected brown rice and blended rice.

Furthermore, the store features an eat-in corner called "AKOMEYA Kitchen," where customers can enjoy various dishes prepared using the foods, seasonings, and tools sold in the shop. At the standing bar, "AKOMEYA BAR," professional bartenders will showcase the art of enjoying Japanese sake. Additionally, freshly handmade warabi mochi, ohagi (sweet rice balls), and inari sushi are available for takeout, making them perfect souvenirs. These offer a taste of seasonal flavors, rich aromas, and delightful textures.

This new Ginza landmark conveys deliciousness and richness from every angle of life—clothing, food, and living. We highly recommend a visit.
