Savor a Five-Course Luxury Crab Menu, Including the Signature Pepper Crab
Ministry of Crab was opened in 2011 in Colombo, Sri Lanka's largest city, by renowned chef Dharshan Munidasa. While Sri Lankan crab is a highly prized ingredient in places like Singapore, there were no restaurants in Sri Lanka serving dishes made with it. Thus, the restaurant was established with the desire to create a place where people could enjoy locally caught crab.

As its Japanese name, "Kani-shō" (Ministry of Crab), suggests, the restaurant offers signature dishes featuring Sri Lankan mud crab, as well as fresh seafood. It has been selected for "Asia's 50 Best Restaurants" for four consecutive years since 2015. Diners can choose from crab sizes ranging from 500 grams to 2 kilograms and select their preferred sauce, such as black pepper, chili, butter, or curry, making it a celebrated establishment known for its customizable dining experience.
This acclaimed Ministry of Crab will be open at Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo, for a limited four-night period from Tuesday, September 25 to Friday, September 28, 2018. Chef Munidasa, who has roots in both Sri Lanka and Japan, is celebrated for his culinary techniques that maximize the ingredients' natural flavors, incorporating elements like soy sauce as a secret ingredient or emphasizing dashi in a style reminiscent of Japanese cuisine. For this pop-up restaurant, Chef Munidasa himself will lead the kitchen, presenting a special five-course menu that allows guests to fully savor mud crab, including the signature "Pepper Crab."
Regarding the pop-up restaurant, Chef Munidasa stated, "Ministry of Crab has previously held pop-up restaurants in London, Sydney, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, and the Maldives. It is deeply moving and an honor to be able to hold one in Tokyo, my birthplace. I hope that everyone in Japan will enjoy the unique dining experience of Ministry of Crab."
Reservations for the Ministry of Crab pop-up restaurant will be accepted starting at noon on Wednesday, August 1, via the main telephone number of Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo.
