Matured in Three Cask Types

Islay malt, Ardbeg, captivates with its distinctive character, offering a peaty, smoky profile balanced by a subtle sweetness and complexity. Now, 'An Oa' joins the core lineup for the first time in about a decade. Named after the Mull of Oa, a peninsula on Islay where the distillery is located.

The cliffs of the Mull of Oa, situated at the southernmost tip of Isla, have been shaped over years of wind and rain into a rounded form. It's a landscape where the dynamic clash of the Atlantic's rough waves and the sheltered bay creates a coexistence of movement and stillness, wildness and calm.

Much like this terrain, 'An Oa' blends smoky aromas with a delicate sweetness, melting into a smooth, creamy texture.

The spirit is matured in three types of casks: Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for sweetness, newly charred casks for spice, and first-fill bourbon casks.

Dr. Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg's Director of Distilling and Whisky Creation, describes the vatting process in a specially created gathering room as 'magic.' Over time, this process yields a complexity, delicate sweetness, and smokiness that surpasses the sum of its parts.
