“Strong Water” Nurtured in the "Green Heart of Italy"
Umbria, located in central Italy, is known as the "Green Heart of Italy" for its production of high-quality grapes and olives. Among its regions, San Gemini, a town of about 5,000 people in the northern Terni province, is renowned as a scenic spot surrounded by lush greenery, retaining its medieval charm. The abundance of mineral springs nurtured by the nature of the nearby Martani Mountains has even left a place name, "Acqua Forte" (Strong Water), in the vicinity of the San Gemini springs.
This mineral spring, cherished since ancient Roman times as a "strong water" that supported people's health, was revealed to be a mineral-rich natural water, including calcium, through a water quality survey by the University of Perugia in 1837. Since then, the environment of this rich water source has been even more carefully protected, and a spa facility utilizing the benefits of natural water was established. In 1889, with investment from local dignitaries, the "San Gemini Mineral Water Company" was founded, marking the start of the San Gemini brand's 120-year history.
Even today, in an era of advanced medicine, Italy recognizes the efficacy of natural remedies, with plant-based natural therapies and hot spring treatments covered by health insurance. Naturally, the mineral content is a crucial factor when selecting mineral water. This country, boasting the world's highest per capita consumption of mineral water at approximately 180 liters per year (*1), has around 260 mineral water manufacturers. Among them, San Gemini is known as "the first water a baby drinks."
Support Calcium Intake, Essential as You Age, with San Gemini
The reason San Gemini, a hard, slightly carbonated water, is said to be suitable even for infants lies in the abundant calcium it contains. Calcium, essential for bone and tooth formation and supporting immune function, is vital for newborns. Furthermore, as calcium absorption and total body content decrease with age, it is an important nutrient to consciously consume after adulthood.
The calcium content in 1.5L of San Gemini is equivalent to about two 200mL glasses of milk (*2). The estimated average calcium requirement for adults (ages 20-40) is approximately 550-650mg per day (*3). Generally, the recommended daily fluid intake for adults is about 2 liters. Therefore, by relying on San Gemini for your daily hydration, you can simultaneously consume necessary fluids and calcium. San Gemini, praised as "strong water" since ancient times. The people living near the springs likely experienced the natural power of this mineral water long before scientific water quality surveys were conducted.

*2 Approximately two 200mL glasses of regular milk. San Gemini 1.5L contains 495mg of calcium. Calculated based on regular milk containing 227mg of calcium per 200mL (from the 5th Revised and Expanded Japanese Standard Food Composition Tables).
