Yohji Yamamoto: A Record of Mode
Yohji Yamamoto has continuously redefined the established notions of 'mode' since his debut at the Paris Collection in 1981, challenging European traditions and aesthetics. "Yohji Yamamoto: A Record of Mode," a book chronicling his journey as a designer, has been released by Bunka Publishing Bureau.
Text by KAJII Makoto (OPENERS)
Includes a new interview of approximately 10,000 characters
"Yohji Yamamoto: A Record of Mode" primarily features a curated selection of themes, recompiled from extensive articles published in Bunka Publishing Bureau's magazines 'So-en,' 'High Fashion,' and 'Mr. High Fashion,' which have long covered Yamamoto's career.
The book includes backstage photographs from numerous exclusive interviews at Paris Collections, as well as a complete archive of Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto's joint show "6・1 THE MEN," held in Tokyo in 1991, which is still spoken of as a legend, alongside 30 years of archives for both women's and men's Yohji Yamamoto collections.
Conversations with his close friend, film director Wim Wenders, and his daughter, designer Limi Yamamoto. Portraits of dancer Pina Bausch wearing Yohji Yamamoto. Nine men—Hidetoshi Nishijima, Yusuke Iseya, Takao Osawa, Ebizo Ichikawa, and Mitsuru Fukikoshi—wearing Yohji Yamamoto.
Furthermore, it includes rare photographs of the work that won the 'So-en Award' while Yamamoto was a student in the design department at Bunka Fashion College in 1969, and a new interview of approximately 10,000 characters where Yamamoto discusses his thoughts on creation and society.
This volume allows readers to once again contemplate the nature of creation through its high-quality, beautiful photographs and text.
