Archiving the Music You Should Hear in the 2010s

"TOKYO MOON" has been broadcast on InterFM since 2010 as a music program for intellectually curious adults. It offers listeners music that transcends genres, from ambient to dance music.

The show's DJ is Toshio Matsuura, who is active worldwide not only as a DJ but also through music production and remixing. In 2013, he launched "HEX," a project to broadcast contemporary jazz from Tokyo to the world.

Published on April 20, 2016, "TOKYO MOON MUSIC FOR LIFE" is a book primarily featuring songs aired during the six-year history of TOKYO MOON. It introduces 391 timeless and genre-defying works, including Nina Simone's "I Put A Spell On You" and Code 9's "Nothing," spanning jazz, soul, cinematic, folk, and South American music. The selection is described as "sometimes comfortable, sometimes thrilling" music to listen to in the 2010s.


Matsuura wanted music to be the star, so he kept introductions to a minimum on the show. As someone not particularly interested in writing or speaking, he decided to curate a team of writers to tell the stories.

The writing team includes music critics, cafe and bar owners, artists, and fashion directors—all people with a passion for music. Their vibrant essays, each with a unique perspective, convey the appeal of the selected albums to readers.

The book's design was handled by Simon Taylor, a world-renowned creator and long-time friend of Matsuura. Sophisticated artwork adorns the cover.

Additionally, two compilation CDs, "TOKYO MOON -Songs Of Yesterday-" and "TOKYO MOON -Speak Low-," featuring songs aired on the program, have been released. By listening to the music featured in the book, readers can experience its world.
