Works Created Against the Backdrop of Kyoto's Premier Sunset Spot to be Presented

Kiyomizu-dera Temple, historically a place of worship open to the public and a nexus of scholarship and art, serves as the venue for "Kensaku Kakimoto Photo Exhibition - TIME - Otowasan Kiyomizu-dera Temple." This exhibition aims to express the concept of "living in this moment" through the theme of time, within this sacred space that has endured for 1200 years as a place of universal prayer.
The exhibition will feature the new series "TIME," which captures light and time that has traveled for tens of millions of years across the universe onto a single film, and "KAN-NON," a new series inspired by Kiyomizu-dera's principal image, the Eleven-Headed Thousand-Armed Kannon Bodhisattva. These works were created at the temple's West Gate (an Important Cultural Property), a renowned sunset viewing spot in Kyoto. The sunset, symbolizing the Pure Land, that shines upon the West Gate is overlaid onto pre-shot photographs, which are then re-photographed to complete the artwork.
Concurrently, he will also present "Sky Tunnel," a new series that further develops "Time Tunnel," his AI-developed series that garnered attention last year.
In a statement about the exhibition, Kakimoto shared his thoughts: "I feel we need to strip away the 'superfluous' and extract what is truly 'important.' This is a process of dismantling oneself and rebuilding from the smallest elements. I created works that lower the surface resolution, increase the mind's resolution, and expand choices rather than providing answers."
This exhibition showcases Kakimoto's works that express his concept of "living in this moment." Why not take this opportunity to visit?
