Bold patterns of cobalt blue, flora, and geometric motifs… New works focusing on the "historicity" and "overlapping of time" that are crucial roots of Okazaki's art.
The new exhibition 'Things That Spin Me' showcases works that represent a new artistic frontier, paying homage to the ceramics of China, Korea, and the Nordic region that the artist admired and was drawn to since childhood, and elevating them through her own interpretation.
In the new works for this exhibition, bold patterns of cobalt blue, flora, and geometric motifs are particularly striking.
The works, shaped from the artist's perspective of growing up surrounded by "old and good things" from both East and West since childhood, are woven with innocent feelings of memory, time, nature, and the inspiration drawn from encountering masterpieces.

The refreshing blue glaze, inspired by a childhood admiration for Chinese antiques, uses cobalt, a blue pigment traditionally used in dyed porcelain. The floral patterns, which the artist feels unconsciously connect to the violets and pansies she loved as a child, are depicted boldly, meticulously, and freely. The geometric patterns, newly incorporated this time, are inspired by Nordic ceramics. Accents of gold add further color to the vibrant works.
The overlapping of time that the artist has accumulated—memories, emotions of the moment, and moments of inspiration—blossoms into new works through her current perspective. 'Things That Spin Me' is sure to captivate many. The artist will also be present at the opening reception on Saturday, November 5th. We highly recommend visiting.
