Showcasing Epoch-Making Products That Symbolize Sony
Sony is holding "Sony Design: MAKING MODERN ~The Challenge of Creating Prototypes~" at the Sony Building in Ginza, Tokyo, until June 14. To commemorate the publication of "Sony Design: MAKING MODERN" by Rizzoli International Publications, a New York-based publisher renowned for its art and design publications, the exhibition features 21 newly photographed images for the book, along with approximately 30 epoch-making Sony products from the 1970s to the present day.

A Special Exhibition Commemorating the Publication of a Book Tracing Product History
Since its founding in 1946, Sony has consistently embodied a spirit of challenge, "doing what others do not," giving rise to products and product designs that have defined their eras. Rizzoli International Publications, resonating with this spirit, has published "Sony Design: MAKING MODERN." The book features newly commissioned photographs of Sony's historical products.
The exhibition "Sony Design: MAKING MODERN ~The Challenge of Creating Prototypes~" at the Sony Building showcases products that were epoch-making in both technology and concept, including the Walkman, which introduced a new style of music listening. For some, these items may evoke nostalgia, while for others, they will appear fresh. Visitors can experience the evolution and deepening of Sony's design journey.
Prior to the opening, a talk show was held with Thomas Lykke, Creative Director of the Copenhagen-based design studio OeO, and Yutaka Hasegawa from Sony's Creative Center. They discussed the history of Sony product design and their personal favorite Sony designs.
Hasegawa remarked, "We hope visitors will come to the venue and experience Sony Design's commitment to creating the next prototypes, and our promise for the future, through the exhibits, photographs, and videos." Lykke commented on the appeal of Sony product design, stating, "Each product has its own character. They feel alive, like individuals. While Sony is a technology company, its brilliance lies in consistently delivering products and technology in a way that resonates with users." He expressed his anticipation for the future of Sony product design.
