Post-war contemporary calligraphy grappled with a profound ambiguity in the relationship between the form of characters and their meaning.

"Image Langue" is an experience of "reading abstraction" through sumi-e ink paintings.
The abstract "dots," freed from characters (meaning), are returned to the realm of meaning (linguistic communication function) through simple "conventions" that symbolize the arbitrariness of language functions. While encompassing the arbitrariness and insularity of Japanese, they become "readable" representations that strengthen Japan's unique identity.

The codes of these dots are reconstructed based on the "Image Langue" system, allowing viewers to sensually experience the visuality of calligraphy while metaphorically deciphering an "undeciphered script."

We anticipate the visual aesthetic of calligrapher Gen Miyamura's work and the expressive power of designer Shun Kawakami, whose work embodies the Japanese aesthetic of negative space and timing.

Additionally, an extension exhibition titled "Kyoto × Tokyo" will be held concurrently at "Sfera Shop Tokyo" on the 3rd floor of Tokyo Midtown. Both venues will feature new works by Shun Kawakami that collaborate with calligraphy: "2010" and "ballon as vase."
