"SPACE PROJECT" Expressing Humanity's Shared Dreams and His Own Aspirations, Also on Display
Photographer and filmmaker Vincent Fournier was born in 1970. Based in Paris, he has worked extensively for numerous advertising campaigns and magazines. His works are held in collections such as the LVMH Louis Vuitton Foundation. He is an artist who garners attention from various quarters, with pieces from his "POST NATURAL HISTORY" series, featured in the film "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," also appearing in this exhibition.
This extensive solo exhibition will feature approximately 30 works, including photographs, videos, and 3D sculptures, from three series: the representative work "SPACE PROJECT," and "POST NATURAL HISTORY" and "THE MAN MACHINE," both being shown in Japan for the first time.
In "SPACE PROJECT," which depicts space development-related locations such as the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan in various ways, Fournier expresses humanity's shared dreams and his own aspirations, presenting photographic works that evoke a sense of nostalgia for the future.
"POST NATURAL HISTORY," making its Japanese debut, introduces "new species" from the future, such as dragonflies with transparent bodies, presented in the style of an encyclopedia illustration. Blending history and fantasy, memory and science fiction, these poetic and delicate animal studies prompt reflection on various themes, including humanity's place within technology and nature.
During the exhibition period, exhibition catalogs and other publications will be available for purchase, and a signing event with Vincent Fournier will be held on Saturday, August 23rd. Furthermore, from Wednesday, August 27th to Tuesday, September 2nd, works not viewable at Diesel Art Gallery will be displayed at Isetan Shinjuku Main Building 2F. Vincent Fournier's "archaeological sites of the future" invite us to explore the beauty of science and the unseen "tomorrow" of civilization through his uniquely unparalleled creations.
