Abstract yet Evocative Realism

Victoria Morton was born in Glasgow in 1971. She earned a Master of Fine Art in painting from the Glasgow School of Art in 1995 and currently creates oil paintings and sculptures. Furthermore, she is actively involved in collaborative projects as a member of the performance collective 'Elizabeth Go' and performs experimental music with the band 'Muscles of Joy,' showcasing a wide range of artistic endeavors.

The exhibition features oil paintings with a watercolor-like touch. While abstract, these works reflect history, music, and daily life on canvas. Layers of color, emitting a delicate radiance, combine methods of movement, repetition, and fragmentation to metaphorically evoke emotions in the viewer.

In addition, sculptures are presented where disparate objects intricately intertwine, integrating within the viewer's gaze to give rise to a form of realism.

Mouth Wave 02

'A desire for mental exercises, like creating and dismantling complex images, coupled with physical impulses, drives me to create,' Morton says. Through her works, which weave in the evolution of pieces during the creation process and even the non-linear sense of time involved in making them, we can experience moments where the psychological, conscious, and unconscious aspects of our daily lives, which appear and disappear, re-emerge.
