Asahi-yaki, a traditional craft with a long history, has collaborated with artless Inc., a leading branding agency in Japan. The event "designart 2019: Tea Ceremony by artless × Asahi-yaki," offering an art appreciation experience in the form of a tea ceremony, will be held at hotel koe tokyo from Saturday, October 19 to Sunday, October 20, 2019.

Asahi-yaki is a kiln based in Uji, Kyoto, with approximately 400 years of history.

The 16th-generation master, Toyosai Matsubayashi, continues to create works based on the traditional techniques of Asahi-yaki, aiming to harmonize the ancient aesthetics of the tea ceremony with contemporary sensibilities.

This collaboration with branding agency artless has now come to fruition.

The event "designart 2019: Tea Ceremony by artless × Asahi-yaki," offering an art appreciation experience in the form of a tea ceremony, will be held on a strictly reservation-only basis.

Shun Kawakami, representative of artless, and Mr. Matsubayashi share a common aesthetic philosophy: the concept of "kirei-sabi" as described by tea master Kobori Enshu.

Based on "kirei-sabi," which harmonizes simplicity with resplendent beauty, the contemporary aesthetic sensibilities of both artists are expressed and exhibited through a single tea bowl and graphics.

The venue is the private lounge of hotel koe tokyo. This event is perfectly suited for this season when one feels drawn to intellectual and serene experiences.
