Osamu Nagahama's photographs, still powerfully impactful, emerge within beautiful interior spaces
By featuring people alongside furniture, not just as standalone pieces, the posters captured lively emotions and dynamic scenes, resembling those found in fashion magazines. These posters infused arflex with an unprecedented avant-garde worldview. Among them is "SIGNAL," created in 1977. Osamu Nagahama, deeply connected with arflex, will have his representative works recontextualized within arflex's seemingly mismatched interior spaces at this "Osamu Nagahama Photography Exhibition - PHOTO REACTION -".
Photographer Osamu Nagahama's roots trace back nearly half a century to a "condensed America." In the 1960s, he approached the biker group "Hells Angels," capturing the raw, condensed essence of outlaws of the time in his shocking series "Hell's Angels." His works also include "American Scramble," capturing fleeting yet eternal landscapes of solitary figures traversing arid lands, and "My Blues Road," a reportage of blues legends whose souls he felt he heard. These American-themed works, which continue to captivate viewers, will be exhibited alongside "The Faces of Warriors" (1980s), where Nagahama focused his sharp gaze on men he found compelling. In the 2000s, he captured the intense expressions of young artists.
The exhibition will also feature over 100 new and old works, including numerous arflex posters from the 70s, commissioned by Nagahama's friend and arflex founder, Masashi Hoshina. We invite you to experience Nagahama's works, which continue to stir the soul even after a quarter-century.
