Levi's® Made & Crafted™ is a line inspired by Levi's historic products, incorporating modern materials and sewing techniques. The brand also garners attention for its initiatives through pop culture, such as art and music. One such initiative is this series, where a different photographer each month expresses the season's theme. August features works by Marcelo Gomez. He presents realistic, vibrant portraits.
Levi's® Made & Crafted™ commissions various American photographers to shoot the brand's seasonal items. Each month throughout the year, a photographer is selected to interpret and express the creative vision in their own style. The works from this project are also published on the Levi's® Made & Crafted™ blog (http://levismadeandcrafted.tumblr.com/), Levi's® social media, and online magazines.

So Alive
Women, the sea, the sky, and jeans. In an extremely simple setting, he captures unpretentious portraits.—The more professional a commercial photographer is, the harder it is to take photos like these. Wet hair, minimal makeup. He fully brings out the model's beauty and the charm of her unadorned clothing.
"We shot at Rockaway Beach [a beach on a long island in southeastern Queens, near JFK Airport, about an hour by subway from Manhattan]. The model, Anne, was perfect and looked great in both men's and women's clothing. We put seawater in her hair and had her do a handstand on the sand," says Marcelo Gomez. His comment conjures an image of a straightforward, unpretentious shooting process.
Gomez says he wants to express facts, sincerity, and the person wearing the clothes. Works that capture their subject this directly are exceptionally rare in the recent art photography scene. Marcelo Gomez
Born in Brazil, he is currently based in New York. He attended the University of Iowa on a basketball scholarship, majoring in political science. After graduating, he moved to New York in 2003 and began working at the magazine *Index Magazine*. He has since published two photography books, *Love and Before, Green and After* (2008) and *Taciturn Heart* (2010). He is currently working on two more books scheduled for publication this year, demonstrating his prolific activity. He is active in major publications such as *Harper's Bazaar* and *Dazed and Confused*, and his work has also appeared in Japanese magazines like *Popeye* and *HUGE*.
