Double Exposure Captures Fabric Texture and Pattern

Levi's® Made & Crafted™ is a line inspired by Levi's historic products, incorporating modern materials and sewing techniques. The brand also garners attention through its engagement with pop culture, including art and music. One such initiative is this series, where each month's theme is expressed through the work of a new artist. Photographer Chloe Aftel employed a "double exposure" technique to emphasize the texture and pattern of the clothing.

Levi's® Made & Crafted™ collaborates with various American photographers to shoot the brand's seasonal items. Each month for a year, a different photographer is selected, and their creative interpretations are released. These project works are featured on the Levi's® Made & Crafted™ blog (http://levismadeandcrafted.tumblr.com/), Levi's® social media, and online magazines.

Delicate, Retro, Graceful

Simply put, "double exposure" involves taking multiple shots on a single frame of film. Chloe Aftel's photographs here layer portraits of models over images of clothing. The works fully leverage the materials and patterns of the Fall/Winter Levi's® Made & Crafted™ (hereafter, LMC) collection.

"I used double exposure to express the LMC clothing. I wanted to create an atmosphere where the model and the garment are in dialogue. I enjoy photographing women who have a sensual, emotional presence," says Chloe Aftel.
