Art Embodied: The Brand's Theme, May

The "Tension" of the Frame, Pursuing How to Present Clothing
Levi's® Made & Crafted™ is a line inspired by Levi's historic products, incorporating modern materials and sewing techniques. The brand also garners attention for its initiatives through pop culture, such as art and music. One such initiative is this series, which expresses the season's theme through the work of a new artist each month. American photographer David Brandon Geeting, who pursues new ways of presenting clothing, delivered a display of tense, carefully constructed frames.
Levi's® Made & Crafted™ features various American photographers to shoot the brand's seasonal items. One photographer is selected each month for a year, and their creative interpretations are published. The works from this project will also be featured on the Levi's® Made & Crafted™ blog (http://levismadeandcrafted.tumblr.com/), Levi's® social media, and online magazines.

Varied Yet Unified
Featuring model shots and still lifes, photographer David Brandon Geeting—born in Philadelphia and now based in Brooklyn, NY—shot Levi's® Made & Crafted™ (hereafter, LMC) clothing in various ways.
It's immediately clear that these works were meticulously crafted to capture LMC's clothing. The situation, the model's pose, the background, the camera's perspective... each photograph feels as though it was taken at the precise moment when that particular composition was at its best.
Brandon explains, "First, I explored the theme of 'construction.' How to combine garments. What shape emerges when worn. What shape emerges when placed. Then, I tried to create various moods by combining different colors and materials."
Despite being shot from various perspectives, the overall tone maintains a distinct sense of unity. This is surely the mark of a skilled photographer.
"Through shooting, I realized there's no single way to perfectly showcase the 'construction' of all garments simultaneously. I believe each piece requires a unique approach to photography. It was enjoyable to take the time to consider how to express each item. I want to create expressions that won't fade over time, rather than just seeing clothes as mere objects."
The works are posted on the LMC blog (http://levismadeandcrafted.tumblr.com/). We encourage you to check them out each month.
