Motifs of Manga, Nudes, and Landscapes
The “Lichtenstein: A Retrospective” exhibition is said to be the largest retrospective of Roy Lichtenstein's work in 20 years. Featuring 125 pieces including paintings and sculptures, it showcases not only masterpieces like “Whaam!” and “Look Mickey,” but also monochrome photographs he created in his early career.
Born in New York in 1923, Lichtenstein began his artistic career in the 1960s, presenting paintings inspired by manga and advertising visuals. He created new forms of expression with his intense use of color and unique techniques, earning high praise as a pioneer of Pop Art. His signature style, characterized by bold colors that emphasize certain parts of the image and dense arrangements of small dots for shading, became his trademark. This is a rare opportunity to see lesser-known works, including his late series of female nudes and landscapes inspired by ancient Chinese paintings.
