An Opportunity to Foster New Cultures and Ways of Thinking
This exhibition is the latest iteration of "Mark-ing," which first debuted in Tokyo in 2011, organized by the British Council and E&Y. Sixteen contemporary designers, eight from Japan and eight from the UK, will present new works alongside an "object" that has influenced them, exploring the differences and commonalities between Japan and the UK.
Through the exhibition, we will explore the differences and commonalities between Japan and the UK in social, educational, and cultural aspects, as well as the connections that link contemporary designers worldwide. The curation is handled by Takeshi Matsuzawa of the Japanese furniture label E&Y and Max Fraser, a British design writer and curator. The exhibition will feature not only currently active designers but also those from all genres who are expected to become prominent in the future.

This is not merely a presentation of new works; the "fragments"—objects displayed alongside each designer's work—express the designers' own inspirations and their connection to social contexts. It is an endeavor to discern the essence and trends of design in both countries, going beyond a superficial comparison of Anglo-Japanese design.
