Endearing Characters
David Shrigley, a British contemporary artist, enjoys international acclaim in the art world while also boasting a cult following in popular culture through his manga and books. Known for his works incorporating a distinctly British black humor, his drawings, often inspired by daily life, have gained significant popularity.
Art goods by David Shrigley have now been released in Japan.
Developed in collaboration with the Melbourne art shop Third Drawer Down, the collection features items that blend cuteness with a spicy kick of black humor.
The lineup includes utility items, handbags, and toys for everyday use, all with a pop aesthetic that is sure to delight.
A particularly noteworthy item, featured in numerous media outlets, is the salt and pepper shaker set. Each shaker is labeled "HEROIN" and "COCAIN," respectively, offering a playful touch that brings a wry smile to the viewer's face.
Next is the "Door Snake," inspired by David Shrigley's book "Weak Messages Create Bad Situations." This item can be imagined for many uses: as a draft excluder for doors, as a children's toy to spark creativity, or as a collector's item.
David Shrigley
A British contemporary artist born in Macclesfield, England, in 1968. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland and currently resides in Brighton, southern England. Shrigley was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize in 2013, an award for British or UK-based artists. In 2016, his 7-meter bronze sculpture "Really Good," a thumbs-up gesture with an unusually long thumb, was selected for the "Fourth Plinth" project in London's Trafalgar Square, one of Britain's most significant public art initiatives, generating considerable buzz. Shrigley is known for his works incorporating a distinctly British black humor, with his witty drawings based on daily life being particularly popular. These are often featured on merchandise such as magazines, T-shirts, badges, and greeting cards. While internationally recognized in the contemporary art field, he is also considered a rare artist who commands a cult following in popular culture through manga and books.
