Takashi Suzuki, who studied photography in the United States and Germany, has been presenting works both domestically and internationally on the theme of the relationship between vision and perception that arises from looking. A solo exhibition titled "Form-Philia," a coined term combining "Form" (meaning shape) and "Philia" (meaning preference or deep affection), is now on view.

This exhibition features "BAU," one of his representative series, where he photographs colorful sponges assembled into various forms. This series, which was also popular at the Dutch photography fair "Unseen" last year, uses a deliberately black background to highlight the aspects of "building" and "structure" that "BAU" implies.

Here, the series, which has "proliferated" into an immense pattern of 500 pieces, will be presented as an installation tailored to the space of IMA gallery.

Meanwhile, "ARCA," another of his representative works, captures phenomena – shadows – directly. Shot with a large-format camera, the greatly enlarged images lose information such as outlines and scale, manifesting as new structures that transcend the inherent meaning of shadows.

Also on display are new works from the "Fictum" series, which creates peculiar landscapes by superimposing architectural elements, montaging photographs of Japan's dense, clustered houses.

Furthermore, on Sunday, June 21, during the exhibition period, Takashi Suzuki will hold a talk show with art journalist Yoshio Suzuki titled "Takashi Suzuki's Works Interpreted Through Art History." Suzuki's work will be explored within the context of art history and contemporary art, from Pop Art and Minimal Art to the Becher School.

By providing a perspective and expression through the medium of photography, Takashi Suzuki has discovered new forms in the shapes of everyday objects like sponges, shadows, and houses, creating different meanings and values. This is a rare opportunity to trace the trajectory of his thought through his representative works.
