Prada Foundation Opens New Art Complex in Milan
The Prada Foundation has opened a new art complex comprising ten buildings in Milan. In addition to permanent exhibitions, it aims to be a space for sharing art with the public through a continuous program of diverse exhibitions.

The new Milan facility, designed by OMA led by Rem Koolhaas, is a renovation of a distillery built in the 1910s. It features a connected architectural structure combining seven existing buildings with new constructions: the Podium, Cinema, and Tower. The concept embraces two conditions: "architectural preservation" and "new creation," allowing them to coexist, confront each other, and interact eternally. Located in Largo Isarco in southern Milan, the complex boasts a total area of 19,000 square meters.
Currently, the Podium is hosting the exhibition "Serial Classic," co-curated by Salvatore Settis and Anna Anguissola. This exhibition focuses on classical sculpture, exploring the ambiguous relationship between originality and imitation in Roman culture and the significance of the circulation of mass-produced items as a tribute to Greek art. The Cinema is presenting a project titled "Roman Polanski: My Inspirations." Exhibitions are also taking place in various other spaces, including warehouses and reservoirs. The Tower is scheduled to open at a later date.
At the entrance, the "Bar Luce," designed by American film director Wes Anderson, is also located. The interior, a homage to Italian cinema of the 1950s and 60s, recreates the atmosphere of a typical Milanese cafe. Wes Anderson commented, "I designed a place for real life, not for sets. It's probably a good place to write a movie script."
The Prada Foundation was established in 1993 as an institution for analyzing the present through exhibitions of contemporary art, architecture, film, and philosophical projects. This new venue follows the opening of its permanent facility in Venice.
