Entering Our Fourth Year: Four Themes Reported

more trees, the forest regeneration initiative led by Ryuichi Sakamoto, has progressed alongside the Minato Forest and Water Conference since its launch on November 30, 2007. At the Minato City Eco-Plaza, a space rich with thinned timber from Tokyo's Tama region, an activity report for the past year was presented with special guests.

The more trees secretariat first announced the organization's transition to a general incorporated association, followed by a video message from representative Sakamoto.

Reporting on our fourth year,

① Forestation Initiatives
② Carbon Offset Initiatives
③ Initiatives with Thinned Timber
④ Future Outlook

were presented in order.

Under "Forestation Initiatives," the "more trees Forests" in Shimokawa Town, Hokkaido; Quirino Province, Philippines; and Komoro City, Nagano were introduced. Megumi Kamakura, who is involved in forest fieldwork with the Susaki District Forestry Association in Kochi, appeared as a special guest, and footage of her work was also shown. Additionally, a report on the "Louis Vuitton Forest" in Komoro City, Nagano, was presented.

The "Carbon Offset Initiatives" section highlighted the ANA Carbon Offset Program, Sakamoto's music event offsets, Enya's forestation efforts, and commmons CD offsets. Under "Initiatives with Thinned Timber," products and goods primarily made from thinned timber were showcased.

Finally, in "Future Outlook," the villages of Morotsuka in Miyazaki Prefecture and Oguni Town in Kumamoto Prefecture, which are slated to become new "more trees Forests," were introduced for the first time. Kosuke Kitazato, the mayor of Oguni Town, took the stage to offer his greetings. It was also reported that forestation efforts utilizing J-VER (offset credits) are expected to become more active.

To conclude, Takashi Kobayashi, a leading figure in treehouse construction and a supporter of more trees, took the stage. The discussion became lively as he spoke about the structure of a treehouse to be installed in the courtyard of the "Adam et Rope" Shirokane Main Store, set to reopen on March 26th.
