2nd 1920REPRISE

There isn't a specific model for these paintings. In fact, I feel I want to distance myself from that idea. While it's certainly enjoyable to depict someone real, it's impossible not to grow fond of them in the process. I don't want to paint people or things I dislike. I meet people I like and dislike. I encounter things I like and dislike. I possess a filter that separates the sensation of liking something from the atmosphere surrounding it. I retain only the wonderful aspects of the many people I meet. Some say I am insincerely polite. Perhaps, then, my paintings are insincerely polite. The very idea that my desire not to cause displeasure is itself displeasing. I do as I please. Though these paintings lack a specific model, I am sometimes stunned and delighted when someone remarkably resembles the person in the painting.
